Heliports

With the assistance of our Municipal, First Nations and the Ministry of Health development of heliports within the district continues to be paramount. These designated landing sites provide access to the Ontario Air Ambulance Program which currently has staffed helicopters located in Thunder Bay and Kenora. These helicopters provide rapid transport and an increased level of care to patient requiring their assistance. The helicopters are operated by Canadian Helicopters and staffed with two pilots and two paramedics qualified to either an Advanced or Critical Care level.

• Opened Emo & Rainy River Heliports in 2003
• Heliport sites being considered for the Municipality of Lake of the Woods /Big Grassy First Nation and Seine River First Nation. 1st site visits took place in May 2004.
• Heliports in the Rainy River District are currently located in Atikokan, Emo, Rainy River & Lac La Croix First Nation
